Workshops for Clinicians 2021

Single-Session Therapy – with Professor Windy Dryden

January 29th 8am-4pm PST 7 CE Credits
* LIVE WEBCAST from UK     cost: 200.
Limited Availability

The assumption that therapy should always be long term has been challenged repeatedly over the last twenty-five years. The difficulty is that Single-Session Therapy has become associated in many therapists’ minds with being “money driven”, “superficial” and “poor quality”. This workshop sets the record straight and shows what can be achieved when the therapist and client work together to see if they can help the client in one session knowing that more help is available.

Single-Session Therapy (SST) is best viewed as a mindset and a way of delivering services rather than an approach to therapy. Indeed, SST can be practised with therapists from a broad range of orientations.

The workshop will outline the basis of Single-Session Therapy and show, in particular, how it can provide help at the point of client need rather than at the point of service availability. Issues covered include:

  • The components of the SST mindset
  • The goals of SST
  • Good practice in SST
  • Setting the stage for SST
  • Creating a focus in SST
  • Problem assessment and goal setting
  • Using client strengths and environmental resources
  • Doing the work with a future emphasis
  • Follow-up and evaluation

Live demonstrations of SST will be conducted with volunteers from the audience who have a genuine problem that they would like help with.
